If this looks familiar, it’s because Riddell released a revolution style helmet about 15 years ago. The Steelers wore it as an alternate throwback between 2007 and 2011. I say alternate throwback because the actual gold helmet the Steelers wore in 1962 read “Steel,” not “Steelers.” The difference between the 2025 alternate throwback and the 2007-11 throwback is that the 2025 helmet has a grey facemask.
This is the 4th alternate throwback from the limited edition series, the others being the Chargers, Vikings, and Jets. It’s also number 24 out of 25 for 2025 (and 39 out of 40 for 2024). Whew. My pocket book needs a break 🙂
With one week left, we still have the white Bills and red Bills throwbacks, the Colts throwback, and the Commanders alternate throwback. I’m betting the next release will be the Commanders.

Riddell NFL Pocket Pro Helmets 
This is not an alternate throwback, to the 1962 helmet, but matches the new 2025 alternate the Steelers introduced this year and wore in game 7. The 1962 helmet didn’t have the outer black outline around the logo, just grey.

I got my helmet yesterday – the first time I ever got one delivered on a Sunday. Another feature I noticed for this Steelers helmet was that this one has a matte finish to it. The Revolution style gold one was glossy like their regular helmet. When I bought that one years ago, I thought maybe Riddell was going to start selling alternates and throwbacks in stores back then. I always wondered why the gold Steelers helmet was the only one?
On a side note, regarding the Colts throwback – if you’re referring to the white helmet with the two horseshoes on the back, that helmet was last worn two years ago. I keep a spreadsheet of all the games since 2016 that include a helmet that has never been released in the Speed style. That was last worn on December 16, 2023 against the Steelers, nearly two years to the day.
The only Speed helmets of the 2025 season that have never been released so far include the White and Red (Week 18) Bills helmets, the Commanders “Super Bowl Era” alternate, the plain silver Lions helmet that they brought back again this past Thanksgiving, plus all eight Rivalries helmets.
