Factory Helmets

Riddell still manufactures pocket pro (or pocket size) helmets and periodically updates many teams, but not all. For example, Riddell only manufactured one 2020 Charger helmet (the Chargers wore three) and did not update the Washington Football Team helmet until about a year after the helmet was changed.

Riddell does not really market the pocket size helmet, especially compared to other collectables. As of 2021, the Riddell collectables website does not sell pocket size helmets. The Riddell Twitter collectable site rarely post anything related to pocket size helmets. Still, current helmets can be found at most shopping sites and are easily available.

Riddell has not manufactured throwback helmets since about the mid 2000s. As a result, the throwback helmets are increasingly rare and increasingly expensive. In my experience, the best place to find these helmets is on ebay, facebook marketplace, or other selling sites, like Mercari or OfferUp. One can also contact Custom Riddell Pocket Pro Football Helmets Buy Sell Trade facebook group.

Custom Helmets

Many custom pocket pros show excellent craftmanship. Prices vary depending on the quality or rarity of the helmet, but they generally are priced between $10 and $40 each. I have ordered high quality helmets from Custom Pocket Pro helmets and a few sellers on ebay. Some sellers I have had positive experiences with and make really nice custom helmets include:

One option is to make your own customs. YouTube has some good tutorials. Logos are printed on waterslide decal sheets and cut by hand. For a better and cleaner cut, some collectors use a Cricut machine and make vinyl decals. Recently, collectors have 3-D printed their own helmets.

Research

• Gridiron Uniform Database. I have found this to be the most researched and well-documented site. It has every team and every year. This site is constantly evolving and updated regularly.
• Uni-watch blog. I believe this is related to the Gridiron Uniform Database.
• The Helmet Project. Another good site.
• Helmet History. Miscellaneous but well-documented site.
