Browns

1952-56, 1957-59, and 1960

Between 1952 and 1956, the Browns helmet was plain orange with a white stripe and grey facemask. In 1957, Cleveland added black player numbers to the helmet. The Browns wore the 1957-69 helmet as a throwback between 2006-08. There are no pocket pros for these helmets, although custom-made pocket pro helmets exist.

In 1960, Cleveland added black stripes around the white stripe. This helmet is in the Throwback Series 2 set.

1961-74

In 1961, Cleveland removed the player numbers from the helmet. Otherwise, the helmet is the same. This style helmet is in the Throwback Series 1, Throwback NFC 2-bar (“69”), and Throwback 2-bar sets.

The 1969 2-bar throwback helmet has the Riddell logo in all caps (RIDDELL). The regular Throwback 2-bar helmet has some cursive font (RIDDell). See the Throwback NFC 1969 site for more information.

1975-2005

In 1975 Cleveland replaced a grey facemask with a white facemask. This helmet is in the Traditional, Revolution and Chrome sets.

2006-14

Cleveland switched back to a grey facemask in 2006 (this was the same helmet as 1961-74). This helmet is in the Revolution set.

2015-2019

This style helmet has a black facemask and is in the Revolution and Speed sets. The other change initiated in 2015 was a pattern in the brown stripes (see photo below).

2020-present

In 2020, the Browns removed the carbon patterning from the brown stripes and returned to a regular, solid pattern. Riddell manufactured a speed style pocket helmet.
