1949-74

The 1949-61 helmet (with no logo) was not officially made by Riddell.

The NY logo helmet is in the Throwback Series 1, Throwback Series 2, Throwback NFC 1969 2-bar (“69”), and Throwback 2-bar sets. The 1969 helmet has “69” printed on it. These helmets were a dark blue color.

The Giants wore the 1961-74 helmet as a throwback in 1994.

1975-99

Disco logo helmet, 1975

In 1975 the Giants added a white border to the red stripe, replaced the grey facemask with a white facemask, and updated the “NY” logo to a style that is so 70’s. There’s no official pocket pro for this helmet. The photo below is customized and accidentally includes a grey facemask instead of a white one (I’ll update that later).

GIANTS logo, red and white stripes, 1976-1980

The “NY” logo was replaced by the “GIANTS” logo between 1976-80. This helmet also had a white facemask. There’s no official pocket pro for this helmet. The photos below are customized.

GIANTS logo, red stripe, 1981-99

In 1981, the Giants removed the white around the red stripe, so the helmet only had a red stripe. The helmet still retained the GIANTS logo and white facemask. It’s a factory helmet in the traditional pocket pro sets.

Until February 2025, this was the only factory helmet with the GIANTS logo.

2000-present

In 2000, the Giants helmet replaced the “GIANTS” logo with the “NY” logo. They also changed the blue, giving it a lighter metallic hue. I call this color metallic blue. The newer style also has a grey facemask instead of the old white one. This helmet style is in four sets: traditional, revolution, chrome and speed.

Alternates and throwbacks

The 1937-47 throwback was worn as a throwback in 2024. It has the same metallic blue color as the contemporary helmets. Riddell made a factory version of this helmet as part of the 2024 limited edition series. Riddell introduced a factory version of the 1981-99 helmet as part of the limited edition series in 2025.

2016-21 “alternate throwback”

In 2016, the Giants wore the 1981-99 helmet as a throwback. However, the NFL had a one helmet rule at the time. So, that Giants helmet has a metallic blue color, as opposed to the dark blue color the team wore between 1981 and 1999. That rule was repealed in 2022. So the Giants wore the dark blue color starting 2022. The dark blue helmet is in the photos below.
